It was a new year at Bayview and the Bayview Four have moved on. Bronwyn went to Yale to study, Cooper on the other hand didn’t want to do anything but base his career on playing baseball. Addy was working at a restaurant, Cafe’ Contigo, while Nate’s going to college and working for Knox’s dad. Things were quite different since the death of Simon. There were a lot of people who wanted to keep Simon’s legacy alive but couldn’t. It just wasn’t possible to recreate the fear Simon’s gossip created. This time it wasn’t just a gossip app, it was a game of truth or dare.
These are the rules:
If you pick truth they will reveal one of your darkest secrets If you ignore them your secrets will be revealed anyway If you pick dare you will have to do it no matter what If you don’t do the dare your deepest secrets will be revealed It is advised that you ALWAYS pick dare The first contestant was Phoebe, she ignored the text and faced the consequences. All of Bayview knows her deepest, darkest secret. The entire school except Maeve and Knox avoided her, even her best friend Jules didn’t want to be seen with her. Another tragic thing happened, Maeve got a nosebleed which means that the leukemia is back. One day when most of the Bayview Four and their friends met up at Cafe’ Contigo to watch Cooper’s game. Jules showed up too and did something really crazy. It turned out that she was the second contestant in the truth and dare game.
Time is ticking and the third contestant hasn’t been contacted yet. Then Maeve gets an unexpected text from the game. She is the third contestant!! Just like Phoebe she ignores it and regrets everything. Her secret gets out and Knox stops hanging out with her. So Phoebe is the third wheel who doesn’t know who to hang out with. Meanwhile, Brandon Weber jumps off of a building because of the truth or dare game and dies. Knox gets a concussion because Sean Murdock punches him in the head.
After his recovery, Maeve and Knox make up, becoming friends again. Maeve takes a couple of tests to see if her leukemia is back and the good news is that it is not. The only thing she has is iron deficiency which can be treated with vitamin pills. Things were getting exciting for Ashton and Eli’s wedding. Phoebe was helping with the decor and goodie bags. Phoebe receives a weird text from an anonymous person. It’s the creator of the truth or dare game. He wants Phoebe to meet him at the park. She goes there with Maeve and Knox but he doesn’t recognize her.
It was the day of the wedding, and Maeve and Knox met up to try and find the creator and his next moves from the clues they got. They found out that he was going to bomb the wedding!!!!!!! The two friends followed him, got the bomb, and threw it far into the grass. But just as when the bomb exploded Nate and Bronwyn were taking a stroll. Luckily none of them got hurt badly.
Knox alerted Eli about the party pooper and the wedding got canceled. Knox and Maeve were treated like heroes after that incident. Phoebe got called to the police because after interrogating the creator he said that Phoebe was also helping with the game. Then Emma (Phoebe’s sister) said that she pretended to be Phoebe and wrote all that horrible stuff about people but stopped after some time. Then they found out that Owen (Phoebe’s brother) continued what his sister started.
This book was one of my favorites out of all the ones I read. There is a lot of mystery about who did what. I learned something new each time I flipped a page. There was always a curiosity about what happens next, you need to know everything in the book to truly understand it. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes secrets, murder, and mystery.
